Help is on the way, dear! And Granny, we’ve been fortunate to enjoy Mrs. Doubtfire for over 30 years.

The beloved Chris Columbus-directed dramedy premiered on Nov. 24, 1993, when the late Robin Williams charmed audiences by pulling double duty as both down-on-his-luck Daniel Hillard and the iconic titular character Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire.

Daniel, a divorced father of three, hatches an elaborate plan to spend more time with his children by disguising himself as an older woman and posing as their nanny with a Scottish accent. Mrs. Doubtfire was “a hip old granny who could hip-hop, be-bop, dance ‘til ya drop and yo, yo, make a wicked cup of cocoa,” and though Daniel didn’t get away with his double life, ultimately, he learned to prioritize his kids.

Mrs. Doubtfire was a box-office success and garnered critical acclaim, earning a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy and an Academy Award for Best Makeup in 1994. Williams also took home a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.

Though Columbus rejected the idea of a sequel, particularly after Williams’ death in August 2014, the ‘90s classic found a new life on Broadway in December 2021, and the musical has since hit the road.

So, carpe dentum, and see what the cast of Mrs. Doubtfire did after the movie’s premiere.

In the dual roles of Daniel Hillard and Mrs. Doubtfire, Williams felt complete freedom when exploring the characters.

“I started to play with the voice. It was so freeing to be able to be someone totally different,” he reportedly said in an interview about the film.

Williams continued to grace the silver screen with iconic roles in Jumanji (1995), The Birdcage (1996), Good Will Hunting (1997) — for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor — Patch Adams (1998), One Hour Photo (2002), Insomnia (2002) and the Night at the Museum franchise.

His four final films were released posthumously: Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014), Boulevard (2014), A Merry Friggin’ Christmas (2014) and Absolutely Anything (2015). The Angriest Man in Brooklyn (2014) was his final on-screen appearance before his death.

After rising to fame on Happy Days and Mork & Mindy in the late ‘70s, the Chicago-born actor returned to TV in 2013 on the one-season sitcom The Crazy Ones, alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar.

On Aug. 11, 2014, Williams died by suicide at the age of 63. He is survived by his third wife, Susan Schneider Williams, whom he wed in October 2011. The late actor also had three children — Zak, Zelda and Cody — from his previous marriages to Valerie Velardi and Marsha Garces.

Sally Field portrayed Miranda Hillard, Daniel’s ex-wife, who pursues a romantic relationship with her co-worker, Stu (Pierce Brosnan).

In May 2026, Field told PEOPLE that Williams — who helped stop production on Mrs. Doubtfire after the actress learned her father had just suffered a massive stroke —was a “wonderful” costar.

“He was such a diamond of a soul. I adored him,” she said.

Since appearing in the classic film, Field earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for 2012’s Lincoln (bringing her career total to three nominations and two wins, thus far). Other notable film credits include Forrest Gump (1994), Where the Heart Is (2000), Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003), Hello, My Name Is Doris (2015), Spoiler Alert (2022), 80 for Brady (2023) and Remarkably Bright Creatures (2026).

The Emmy-winning actress is also known for her roles on ER, Brothers & Sisters, Maniac, Dispatches from Elsewhere and Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.

In 2018, she published the memoir In Pieces. Outside of Hollywood, the L.A. native has been a spokesperson for bone health since revealing her diagnosis with osteoporosis in 2005 and has continued to advocate for the LGBTQ+ community.

Field is a mother of three. She shares two sons, Peter and Eli, with ex-husband Steven Craig and son Sam with ex-husband Alan Greisman.

Mara Wilson’s first film role was Mrs. Doubtfire, where she played Natalie, the Hillards’ youngest child.

During a Mrs. Doubtfire cast reunion with her on-screen siblings, Lisa Jakub and Matthew Lawrence, in May 2026, she shared one of her favorite moments working on the 1993 comedy.

“One of my favorite memories is when we were doing the petting zoo scene, and we were outside, and I’m riding the pony, and he took his hat off, and he put oats into his hat for the pony to eat,” Wilson, who was 6 at the time of filming, said. “And the pony ate it out of his hat. Then, he turned to me with this hat, full of oats and pony slobber, and said, ‘Wanna wear it?’ And that’s just classic Robin.”

The actress quickly followed the role up with leads in two more ‘90s classics: Miracle on 34th Street (1994) and Matilda (1996).

Following Thomas and the Magic Railroad (2000), Wilson took a hiatus from acting. Since returning in the 2010s, her credits have included Broad City, BoJack Horseman and Big Hero 6: The Series.

She’s largely focused on voice roles, web series and podcasts, including Welcome to Night Vale, as well as audiobook narration.

“I love that you can be anything,” Wilson told PEOPLE in May 2026 about why she enjoys recording audiobooks, which she estimated to be about 70 at that point. “I love that you get to play all the characters.”

A skilled writer, Wilson penned the 2016 memoir Where Am I Now?: True Stories of Girlhood and Accidental Fame. She also wrote an essay in November 2017 for Elle and an op-ed for The New York Times in February 2021 on the sexualization of child stars in Hollywood.

Jakub played Lydia, the eldest Hillard child.

In November 2021, Jakub looked back fondly on Mrs. Doubtfire, writing alongside a black-and-white photo of herself and Williams from the film’s set, “28 years ago today Mrs. Doubtfire opened in theaters. Things changed for me that day-wonderful things and difficult things — but I’ll always feel grateful for this movie that meant so much to so many people.”

Jakub worked steadily in the years that followed, appearing in films like Independence Day (1996) and George Lucas in Love (1999), as well as multiple TV movies. Her last film before retiring from acting was 2000’s Double Frame.

She has reunited with her Mrs. Doubtfire costars since their film premiered. She shared a sweet photograph with Brosnan, Wilson and Matthew for the film’s 25th reunion special in 2018, and reunited with her on-screen siblings in 2024 for an appearance on Matthew’s Brotherly Love Podcast.

Jakub, born in Canada, is now a writer, speaker and yoga instructor. She created the mental wellness website Blue Mala in 2021.

Matthew played Chris, the Hillards’ middle child.

The Pennsylvania-born actor told PEOPLE in April 2025 that after filming, Williams “stayed a part of my life.”

“That movie could have wrapped [and] like everybody else, he could have gone his separate way, but he didn’t,” Matthew explained. “He stayed invested, and he gave me some incredible life lessons that definitely kept me from some dark places at times. And I’ll just never be able to thank him enough for that.”

He continued acting, working with his brother Joey Lawrence on Blossom and with Joey and their younger brother Andrew Lawrence on Brotherly Love. Beyond acting, Brosnan is an artist who spends his free time selling prints of his paintings to charity. He is equally passionate about the environment and philanthropy.

After losing his first wife, Cassandra Harris, to ovarian cancer in December 1991, Brosnan married journalist Keely Shaye Smith in August 2001. The Golden Globe-nominated actor shared three children — late daughter Charlotte, who also died of ovarian cancer in June 2013, and sons Christopher and Sean — with Harris, and sons Dylan and Paris with Smith.
