The Atlanta Braves have shared their condolences over the death of former team owner Ted Turner.

"Our good friend and former owner, Ted Turner, was one of a kind — a brilliant businessman, consummate showman and passionate fan of his beloved Braves," the team statement read. "Ted's visionary leadership and innovative approach to broadcast television transformed the Braves into 'America's Team.'"

Turner's time in owning the Braves was transformative for the franchise. Ever since buying the franchise in 1976 and very briefly working as the team's manager in 1977, Turner oversaw the franchise's rise to being one of the most prominent powerhouses in the sport.

The Braves won a World Series in 1995 under Turner's ownership, and the team's former ballpark, Turner Field, was named after him in 1996.

Turner looms large in Braves history, and it's fitting the team give him such a moving tribute as this.
