Shirley MacLaine stepped out for a rare public outing in Malibu earlier this week to enjoy a relaxed afternoon with friends at an outdoor cafe.
The Terms of Endearment star kept things comfortable in a dark navy sweatshirt over a matching royal blue top and loose-fitting black pants. She looked chic in a wide-brimmed sun hat, pairing the look with oversized brown gradient sunglasses, highlighting a signature touch that added a bit of Old Hollywood glam to her laid-back ensemble.
Her short hair framed her face as she chatted with friends at Kristy's Village Cafe. The 91-year-old Oscar winner appeared to be in great spirits as she sipped on a bright orange cocktail served in a stemless martini glass with what looked like a chili salt rim.

The star sat at a woven outdoor table surrounded by friends, occasionally smiling and engaging in conversation as she took in the festive pre-Thanksgiving atmosphere. At one point, she was seen taking a bite of her lunch, holding her sandwich as she enjoyed the sunny Malibu weather.

In Oct. 2024, the A-list actress spoke exclusively with PEOPLE about her book The Wall of Life: Pictures and Stories from This Marvelous Lifetime, which she released at the time, and explained how it stays true to its title and doesn't venture outside of her current life, except for when she writes about her parents and grandparents.
MacLaine told PEOPLE that although she does "wonder about how long" she has left, she hasn't put too much thought into what will happen in her next life.
"Oh, honey, I don't know," she said when asked who she would like to be the next time around. "I can't do that. I've got to spend some time in heaven first."
She also opened up about Holly Golightly, the iconic character that Audrey Hepburn played to perfection in the 1961 classic Breakfast at Tiffany's. The role was initially offered to MacLaine, she says, but she turned it down.

"I didn't want to have to worry about my weight to be able to wear all those outfits and do all those fittings," MacLaine writes in the book, adding that she also "didn't think it was a very good script."
Although she writes that she "doesn't really regret" her decision, in hindsight, she told PEOPLE, it's the one film she didn't do that she wishes she had done.
