A plane landed off the runway at a Queen Creek airpark — the second such incident in the East Valley in as many weeks.
Queen Creek Fire and Medical responded to reports May 5 of a plane off the runway at Pegasus Airpark, according to Town of Queen Creek spokesperson Eric Everts. There were no reported injuries, Everts said.
Crews cleared the area leading to the temporary closure of the runway at the airpark on Empire Boulevard near Ellsworth Road, according to Everts.
The plane, described as a Lancair IV, landed with its gear up around 11 a.m. with only the pilot aboard, according to Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson Donnell Evans. The FAA will investigate the incident with a preliminary report available possibly by May 6.

The aircraft is a 1995 model with Queen Creek-based Blucor Transportation LLC. listed as its registered owner. The company was aware of the incident and was trying to determine what led up to the situation, according to an employee who spoke briefly May 5 with The Arizona Republic.
A plane with two people aboard landed April 28 in the runway overrun area at Falcon Field Airport in Mesa.
Although the incident resulted in no injuries, 2026 marked a deadly year for aircraft in Arizona with at least 10 people killed in five separate incidents in the first four months. This number amounts to the total of aircraft fatalities in the state for all of 2025.
