New film camp offers Rockford teens hands-on experience

Registration is open for a new film camp for teens.
The 5HORT Film Camp is scheduled to run from July 6-10 at Keith Country Day School, according to a community announcement. The camp is designed for students ages 13 to 17 who are interested in filmmaking.
Participants will gain hands-on experience from industry experts, learning the filmmaking process from script writing to editing. The camp will culminate in the creation of a short film.
Registration is open for the inaugural 5HORT Film Camp, July 6–10, 2026, offering teens hands‑on filmmaking experience in Rockford.
Campers will also receive complimentary filmmaker submission waivers and passes for the fifth annual 815HORTS Film Festival, set for Nov. 13-14, 2026.
A learning experience
The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and costs $200 per participant, according to the announcement. Film equipment will be provided, but campers are expected to bring their own lunch.

The camp is being held in partnership with the Illinois Film Office, Xfinity and the Rockford Area Arts Council.
