The latest evening news ratings are in, and Tony Dokoupil has reason to smile, as CBS Evening News was back over the 4 million total viewers mark for the week of June 22.
According to AdWeek, citing national live+same-day big data plus program ratings from Nielsen, CBS Evening News averaged 4.015 million total viewers and 576,000 viewers in the coveted Adults 25-54 demographic for this just-concluded week. It was up 2% in total viewers and in the demo compared to the week prior, making it the only program with gains in both measured categories.
The show, which was plagued with ratings concerns earlier this year amid upheaval at CBS News, was also up compared to the same period in 2025. It grew by 3% among total viewers and by 12% in the key demo.
Despite its gains, CBS Evening News still trailed its competition. ABC World News Tonight with David Muir held the top spot, averaging 7.528 million total viewers and 955,000 demo viewers for the week of June 22. This was down 5% in total viewers but up 3% in the demo compared to the previous week.
Compared to last year, ABC World News Tonight was up 2 percent in total viewers but down 8% in the demo. It was the only newscast to show a decrease in either of the measured categories during this comparison.

Meanwhile, NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas held onto second place, averaging 6.341 million total viewers and 890,000 demo viewers. Compared to the week prior, the show was flat in total viewers and down 4% in the key demo.
It was better news for NBC Nightly News in the year-over-year comparison, as the show was up 10 percent in total viewers and 6% in the demo.
As for the average second-quarter ratings, ABC World News Tonight came out on top with 8.2 million total viewers and 1.010 million demo viewers. Nightly News held second place with 6.347 million total viewers and 932,000 demo viewers. And CBS Evening News landed in third with 3.9 million viewers and 535,000 demo viewers.
