Long live the Queen … of Christmas.
Mariah Carey has landed another round of glory for her ubiquitous holiday bop "All I Want for Christmas Is You." The sprightly song is now the longest-running No. 1 song in Billboard chart history after extending its reign on the Hot 100 to 20 total weeks this year.
Carey's 1994 smash surpasses the previous record holders, Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" and Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)." It's a fitting twist considering "Old Town Road" first supplanted her long-held claim to the longevity title with 1995's "One Sweet Day," which held the then-record 16 weeks at No. 1 before Lil Nas X rode in with a 19-week run in 2019. Shaboozey tied that 19-week mark in 2024.
"All I Want for Christmas Is You" has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide and is certified 18-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. It first topped the Billboard Hot 100 in December 2019, following a chart update that allowed recurrent songs to enter.
The annual emergence of Carey's glossy jangle has also boosted the album that bears the single, 1994's "Merry Christmas," to Diamond status by the RIAA, the rare achievement of more than 10 million units sold. It's Carey's third Diamond award, following 1993's "Music Box" and 1995's "Daydream."

Mariah Carey has broken another record with her ubiquitous holiday hit, "All I Want for Christmas is You."
Carey, 56, recently wrapped her Christmas Time residency in Las Vegas and in September released her 16th studio album, "Here for It All." She also celebrated the 20th anniversary of her hits-laden "The Emancipation of Mimi," which bore the classics "We Belong Together" and "It's Like That."
On Jan. 30, Carey will be honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year, the annual pre-Grammy event that raises money for the MusiCares foundation and spotlights an artist who is committed to helping others. Carey is a longtime philanthropist who aided communities impacted by Hurricane Katrina and the COVID-19 pandemic.
She also founded Camp Mariah in 1994 in partnership with the Fresh Air Fund to support underserved youth and champion initiatives advancing health, education and social welfare.
MTV also recognized Carey’s longevity this year by presenting her with the MTV Video Vanguard Award in September.
