Lane Kiffin will not be coaching Ole Miss football in the College Football Playoff on Saturday, Dec. 20, vs. Tulane, but that won't stop him from tweeting about his former team.

In a response to tweets by Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves and Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry about the Rebels' playoff inclusion against the Green Wave, who are the first team to qualify for the CFP from the state of Louisiana, Kiffin offered an olive branch.

"It's not the hunger games, guys," Kiffin wrote in a tweet on his personal X account (formerly Twitter). "Let’s both cheer for each other all year long except when we play each other."

Of course, the animosity between Mississippi and LSU was heightened with Kiffin's departure from the Rebels to the Tigers, despite Mississippi going 11-1 in the regular season and earning a playoff berth. Kiffin wanted to continue coaching the Rebels in the playoffs, despite accepting a job with a rival.

Mississippi is scheduled to host LSU at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi, on Sept. 19, 2026. That will be a game circled on all Rebels' fans' calendars, as they are likely to give Kiffin a reception he won't forget. Do not expect them to get along with Kiffin, then.
