Kid Rock says having hotline to President Trump is 'awesome'

Kid Rock is spilling the beans on his late-night chats with President Donald Trump.

A longtime friend of the president, Kid Rock has been a regular in the Oval Office, golfed with Trump and, in February, hosted conservative organization Turning Point USA's halftime show, which was pitched as the "All-American" alternative to Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show.

During an interview with Kid Rock, Sky News Australia host Paul Murray asked him what it was like "having a buddy who's running the world?" "Awesome," said Rock, who was born Robert Ritchie. Chatting with Trump is "one of my late-night drinking tricks," the music star said in the interview, which is part of Sky News Australia's upcoming feature "Trump's America: 250 Years in the Making."

'He always picks up': Kid Rock dishes on friendship, phone calls with Trump

"I know when to get him, and he's so gracious, he always picks up or he'll call and check in just to shoot the s--t most of the time," Rock said. "He's not calling me, you know, like 'Hey, what should we do in Iran, Bob?' I don't get those calls."

The typical timing for a chat, Rock said, is when he's "sitting around having a few beers, it's like 11 or 12 (p.m.) on Friday or Saturday, I know he's up. He sleeps like me … like five hours and I'll be like, 'Hey, Bob, what's up? Blah blah blah. It's the best, you know. I enjoy the hell out of hanging out with him and talking with him and just having a front row seat to the greatest s--tshow on Earth."

The musician's ties to the Trump administration have led to the posting of a workout video in February with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the secretary of Health and Human Services, and a month later, a U.S. Army helicopter doing an apparent fly-by of Rock's home near Nashville.

Rock said he had achieved the American dream and that others can, too. "There's a lot of talk about 'Is it alive, is it well?' Yes, it is, but not working 40 or 50 hours a week. That's not how you get the American dream. You have got to be willing to sacrifice," he said. "But if you want to climb to the top of that food chain, you're going to bust your ass."
