Season 2 of the video game adaptation will premiere on Prime Video on Dec. 16. The highly anticipated eight-episode follow-up will pick up right where the record-breaking inaugural season left off: with Lucy (Ella Purnell) and The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) headed for New Vegas. And the show's stars have already hinted at some unexpected turns.

“You will see a side of Lucy that no one has seen before, that no one will expect," Purnell told the at a London screening in December 2025. “Even I didn't expect it. It's something I've never done before, something I was quite scared to do. I think it came out good, so I'm excited for people to see it.”

In addition to Purnell and Goggins, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Moisés Arias and Frances Turner will all reprise their roles. Kumail Nanjiani and Macaulay Culkin have also joined the cast for season 2.

"I'm just a huge fan of the show and I've been a huge fan of the video games," Nanjiani told Entertainment Tonight in December 2025. "They nailed it. It's perfect for fans of the game but also people who don't know the games ... because it's like kinda weird and funny, not just straight sci-fi. It's got a great sense of humor so I was thrilled to be a part of it."

The second season of Fallout will premiere on Prime Video on Dec. 16 — over a year after the first season was released. The show was originally set to premiere on Dec. 17 until Amazon announced two days earlier that the first episode will drop a day earlier.

Though the hit apocalyptic series was renewed just a week after its season 1 debut in April 2024, the showrunners admitted that it takes time to build a wasteland.

"We are going as fast as we possibly can," showrunner Graham Wagner told The Hollywood Reporter in June 2024. "We’ve got a lot of heavy lifting from Season 1 already done. We have sets, assets, visual effects, that are already done. We are hitting the ground running this season. We’re going to be pedal to the metal to get season two out as fast as humanly possible."

How many episodes are there in Fallout season 2?

Like season 1, Fallout season 2 will consist of eight episodes. And while fans might want more time with Lucy and The Ghoul, Wagner has joked that a longer order wasn’t realistic given that the franchise has 25 years of content.

"You can spend a thousand hours in a single [game]," he told Windows Central in April 2024, before Fallout was renewed. "I think we might've died if we tried to do a 24-episode order of a show like this ... Creatively, gosh, it would be great to have more. If we're lucky enough to get a second season, we may be counting our lucky stars that it's only eight so that we can not die."

Prime Video will release the first episode of season 2 of Fallout on Dec. 16. After that, a new episode will drop weekly on Wednesdays until the season finale on Feb. 4.
