Balmoral Castle in Scotland -

A 2001 email to Ghislaine Maxwell that was released by the Department of Justice asks her, "Have you found me some new inappropriate friends?"

It was said to be sent from the royal family's Balmoral estate and signed by "A," prompting speculation that the former Prince Andrew was the sender

The email isn't the only connection to a royal residence to come up in the latest document release

Among the thousands of documents in the latest release by the Department of Justice regarding Jeffrey Epstein is an email where someone who signs off as "A" asks Ghislaine Maxwell, "Have you found me some new inappropriate friends?"

The August 2001 message with the subject line "Summer Camp" is from "The Invisible Man," under the email address [email protected], and sent to Maxwell, a convicted Epstein conspirator.

It begins by saying, "I am up here at Balmoral Summer Camp for the Royal Family," referring to the royal residence in Scotland where the British royals traditionally retreat in the summer. "Activities take place all day, and I am totally exhausted at the end of each day."

"How's LA? Have you found me some new inappropriate friends?" the note continues. "Let me know when you are coming over, as I am free from 25th August until 2nd Sept and want to go somewhere hot and sunny with some fun people before having to put my nose firmly to the grindstone for the Fall. Any ideas gratefully received!"

The email is signed, "See ya A xxx"

Due to the royal family connection, the "A" initial and his known ties to Maxwell, the email is being widely reported as coming from the former Prince Andrew.

PEOPLE has reached out to Andrew's office for comment.

The email isn't the only connection to a royal residence to come up in the latest document release. A newly released black-and-white photograph from the DOJ shows Andrew, now 65, lying across the laps of several women — whose identities have been redacted — in the saloon at Sandringham, per The Times. Sandringham is the estate where the British royal family traditionally spends Christmas.

There has been renewed interest in the former prince, now known simply as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, and his connections to Epstein in recent months, as recently leaked emails showed that Andrew was in touch with Epstein after he had claimed to break off contact. In addition, Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre, who died by suicide in April, claimed in a memoir published posthumously that Andrew “believed having sex with me was his birthright,” describing three occasions Epstein allegedly arranged for her to meet him beginning at age 17. Andrew has denied this claim.

In the wake of the criticism, King Charles announced that he had begun the process of stripping Andrew of his royal titles in October.

Andrew stepped back from his public royal role in 2019 following a BBC interview in which he discussed his relationship with Epstein, who died in jail the same year while charged with the sex trafficking of minors. Queen Elizabeth stripped her son of his military titles and patronages in early 2022 after a judge rejected Andrew's attempt to have Virginia Giuffre’s sexual assault lawsuit against him dismissed. He later settled with Giuffre out of court for an undisclosed sum.

Andrew has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
