Danny Glover isn't viewing his Alzheimer's diagnosis as "the end of my life."

On Wednesday, the *Lethal Weapon* star revealed that he learned in 2023 that he had the progressive neurodegenerative condition. But the 79-year-old actor plans to keep fighting and living.

ā€œI don't feel like it's the end of my life," Glover told PEOPLE. "There's work to do ... I still have my daughter, I have friends. I want to just say, your life continues.ā€

Appearing on *Today*, Glover's daughter, Mandisa, shared that it's important that her father "tells his story" while he still "has ownership of his life."

Added the elder Glover, ā€œI can live with it, in a sense. I’m sure as it advances, things are going to be different and changing."

An honorary Oscar recipient, as well as a multi-time Emmy and Grammy nominee, Glover's career took off in the '80s, thanks to starring roles in *The Color Purple*, *Witness*, and *Lethal Weapon*. He'd reprise his *Lethal Weapon* role of exhausted Det. Roger Murtaugh in three subsequent sequels alongside Mel Gibson.

Glover's most recent credit was the 2023 Disney Channel Christmas movie *The Naughty Nine*, in which he played Santa Claus.

Alzheimer's affects a person's mind and memory, and, at the moment, Glover says that he feels the most clear and aware early in the day.

ā€œWhen I wake up, I try to figure out something,ā€ Glover told PEOPLE. ā€œReading something, looking at something. Democracy Now! is a show that I love.ā€

Living in San Fransisco, Glover is surrounded and supported by his daughter, brother Marty, and other caregivers, who are all determined to be there for the acting legend.

"We just want him to live his best life,ā€ Marty shared, ā€œlike he made us live ours.ā€
