Carrie Underwoodis switching things up—and fans definitely noticed.

The country superstar surprised her Instagram followers on Friday, December 12, when she posted a selfie revealing a dramatic new look. Long known for her signature bombshell blonde waves, Underwood, 42, appeared with noticeably darker hair, prompting a flood of reactions online.

“Every child deserves hope,” she captioned the photo, encouraging fans to “Become a Partner in Hope with @stjude” and support children facing cancer, promoting a shirt she was wearing with the words “music gives to St Judes Kids” on it.

“Carrie you we’re beautiful before. What in the world were you thinking. You look like a totally different person. Not a fan of this.,” one critiqued.

Another noted, “Still very pretty but looks like a different person,” while a third said, “I miss the original Carrie look.”

Back in August, the American Idolwinner revealed she was returning to a more natural honey tone after years of platinum. “The last time I saw my natural hair color, I was probably about 12 years old, but I thought it might be time to give it a second chance,” she wrote at the time, showing off her new cut and color on Instagram.

While her look may be shifting, Underwood’s career momentum certainly hasn’t slowed. In October, she achieved a historic milestone, becoming the highest RIAA-certified female country artist of all time, with over 95 million units sold across albums and singles. “Accomplishments like this are more than I would have ever dared to dream of,” Underwood said in a statement, adding that she “owes everything” to her fans.

Fresh off a commemorative plaque presentation at the Grand Ole Opry, Underwood’s latest transformation proves she’s still full of surprises—onstage and off.
