FOXBORO — Ambrizeth Lima dances softly outside of Gillette Stadium.

That royal blue Cape Verdean flag around her neck, a Tubarões Azuis kit on her back. Earrings to match the flag, her husband by her side. And she just stands there. Dancing.

Nearby, the Brockton-based dance group, Effortless Steppas, dances to the beats of Bryan "DJ Fresco" Ribeiro. The youth dance group moves quicker than Lima and her husband. They're louder too, a little more boisterous. But the two dance sects — the older couple and the younger group — weren't at odds with each other. These weren't warring factions. No. These were simply two different rhythmic manifestations of the palpable zeal that flooded Gillette Stadium.

It was Wednesday, April 27, and everyone seemed to have a reason to dance. After all, Boston Legacy FC was hosting its Cape Verdean Heritage night.

"I'm so excited," Lima said. "As you can see, Cabo Verdeans love to represent and celebrate. I think it's a beautiful thing, and I think it's important to be able to share that with everyone."

The celebrations started just outside the stadium during FanFest. DJ Fresco was on aux, and Cape Verdean jerseys and flags were as plentiful as the clouds in the sky. But the rain held off just long enough for all the planned Cape Verdean celebrations to get underway. Before the game, Effortless Steppas and DJ Fresco performed outside the stadium. But then at halftime, the events moved front and center into the colosseum that is Gillette Stadium.

First up was Cape Verdean singer-songwriter, Sança, who performed two songs, including her newest single, "long distance lover." She then ceded the stage to the Effortless Steppas, who came out of the tunnel in sixth gear, all wearing Cape Verde jerseys. They flipped and jumped as if their knees were springs and danced and ran as if they were powered by the Energizer Bunny himself.

As the kids trotted out of the stadium, they were met with thunderous applause.

But, it wasn't the last time that Gillette was brought to its feet that night: Just 45 minutes later, the Legacy secured its first point in club history thanks to two first-half goals from Alba Caño and Sammy Smith.
