Happy 17th anniversary to Ben Lee and his wife, actress Ione Skye.
The Australian singer-songwriter marked the occasion with a post on his official Instagram account on Dec. 28, with a screenshot of People magazine’s coverage of their wedding. The headline reads: “PHOTO: Ione Skye’s Hindu Wedding in India” along with the subhead, “The Say Anything star and Australian singer Ben Lee don traditional clothing for the ceremony.” The photo below shows the happy couple at smiling each other, wearing classic Indian garb.

In the caption, Lee added his own sweet and humorous words. “17 years ago today, in a deluge of colour, incense and blatant cultural appropriation, @ioneskyelee made an honest man out of me. Love you babe. Grateful for the collaboration of a lifetime!”
Fans and famous friends of the couple posted messages in the comments, with Go-Go’s singer Belinda Carlisle and actress-singer Rain Phoenix both offering a row of red hearts.
Sassy and Jane founding editor Jane Pratt posted, “Happy anniversary, incredible duo!”
The couple, who share daughter Goldie Piya, were married in a traditional Hindu ceremony in the village of Malaikodi, near Chennai on Dec. 29, 2009, according to The Daily Telegraph, per People. Among those in attendance were Skye’s older brother, Donovan Leitch.

This is Lee’s first marriage after his long-term relationship with actress Claire Danes.
Skye wrote about her previous marriage to the Beastie Boys’ Adam Horovitz in her acclaimed book Say Everything, which was named one of the “9 best celebrity memoirs of 2025” by the Los Angeles Times.
The book details Skye’s attempt to connect to her absent father, legendary “Sunshine Superman” folk-rocker Donovan, her star-making role in Say Anything, her troubled relationship with Red Hot Chili Peppers’ singer Anthony Kiedis, ill-fated marriage to Horovitz, and eventual settling down with Lee.
On the Glamorous Trash: A Celebrity Memoir Podcast, Chelsea Devantez said Skye’s story “feels like a Forrest Gump-style journey through a ’90s Hollywood fever-dream. It’s everything you want in a celeb memoir: wild dishy reveals, beautiful vulnerability and a riveting tale of Hollywood and love that will make you feel like you’re re-living a piece of the ‘90s.”
Aside from their respective careers as a singer-songwriter and actor, the pair also have hosted the podcast Weirder Together with Ben lee and Ione Skyesince April 2022. In the recently released final episode of 2025 the pair predict what’s going to be in and out in 2026.
