Barack Obama recently delved into why he believes that the government is “terrible at keeping secrets.” This came as he sat down for an interview with talk show host Stephen Colbert, discussing politics and personal life, while also addressing the conspiracy theory that the United States is hiding evidence of alien existence.

As Stephen Colbert nears the end of his talk-show era, he interviewed former U. S. President Barack Obama at the Barack Obama Presidential Center. During the interview, Colbert reminded the Democrat of previously saying that aliens exist, but backtracked on it later.
Obama laughed and defended himself, saying, “I thought it was so obvious what I meant.” He added, “Here’s the thing: For those of you who still think that we’ve gotten little green men underground somewhere, one of the things you learn as president is the government is terrible at keeping secrets.”
Obama believes that if the United States government is truly hiding “aliens or alien spaceships,” it would have already been leaked by now. He hypothesized that a security guard would have taken a selfie with the alien to “impress his girlfriend.” He noted that there would definitely be leaks.

In response, the 11-time Emmy-winning host jokingly asked whether there would be hints to support the conspiracy theories. Colbert gave an example, pointing to Obama’s presidential center. He described the building as a “scout ship that has come down from low orbit and landed in Chicago,” garnering more laughter from the former president.
Colbert then asked Obama if he wished aliens were real. The politician responded positively. He added that if humans were ever to make first contact with aliens, he would be a “good emissary” for the planet. “I’ve got some experience at statecraft and diplomacy. I’m friendly. So I actually think I could do a pretty good job,” he explained.
