Ashley Tisdale French is bringing her motherhood experience to the screen.
A comedy called Toxic Moms, from the High School Musical alum, is now in development at Netflix, with both Sabrina Jalees and Ali Wong attached to bring it to life, Deadline reported on Thursday, July 2.
Inspired by Tisdale French, 41, and her own journey as a mom, the show is described as a half-hour comedy about a new mom who encounters a crew of rich mothers with a darker side. The situation tests how far its lead character will go to experience community, per a description shared by Deadline. The series will be written by Jalees, known for her work on Mating Season and Search Party.
Tisdale French confirmed the news on Instagram on Thursday, July 2, alongside the caption: "I guess we all can be a little toxic."

The development comes six months after Tisdale French's "Breaking Up with My Toxic Mom Group" essay was published by The Cut in January, shortly after it was already shared to her personal Substack.
In it, the actress discussed leaving her "toxic" group of mom friends. She shares kids Jupiter Iris, 5, and Emerson Clover, 1, with husband Christopher French.
Tisdale French wrote about how "mom groups can turn toxic" when the "dynamic shifts into an ugly place with mean-girl behavior." She cited her own "mom group," in which she "started to notice that certain people would get talked about when they weren’t present, and not in a positive way."
Tisdale French wrote: "I realized that there were group text chains that didn’t include everyone, which led to cliques forming within the larger group. And after the third or fourth time of seeing social media photos of everyone else at a hangout that I didn’t get invited to, it felt like I wasn't really part of the group after all."

At the time of the essay's publication, fans zeroed in on photos showing the actress spend time with a group that included Hilary Duff, food influencer Gaby Dalkin, Meghan Trainor, Mandy Moore and others. Reps for those in the photos did not responded to requests for comment from PEOPLE at the time.
Moore later told Andy Cohen that she found whole situation surrounding the essay "very upsetting."
"The most important thing in my life is being a kind person and, like, that legacy of kindness, and anyone even insinuating that that might not be the case and with the company that I choose to keep is very upsetting," she said. "I'd say that was the biggest takeaway, sort of the shock of like, 'Wow.'"
Per Deadline, Tisdale, Jalees and Wong will executive produce Toxic Moms and Wong may direct if it goes to series.
The actress is also set to play the the lead role in CBS’ series You’re Only Young Twice. She announced the news via Instagram on Friday, Feb. 27.
The comedy follows Emily, played by Tisdale French, and Alex, who had a baby and got married in high school. At 35, the duo become empty nesters and decide to get divorced and dive headfirst into the world of dating, all while navigating co-parenting. At the time of the news, the project was in early development.
