Amy Sedaris is opening up about making handcrafted gifts this holiday season

The comedian tells PEOPLE about why she's "awful" at wrapping presents

Sedaris also speaks about her partnership with Amy's Kitchen

Amy Sedaris would like to make your holiday gifting experience easier this year.

So far this month, the 64-year-old comedian has shared 100 gift suggestions with her followers on Instagram — an eclectic mix of products, from her friend Sarah Jessica Parker’s wine to miniature money in a tiny briefcase. She’s also selling her own crafts for charity at the Locavore Variety Store in New York City, if you're looking for something handmade by Sedaris herself.

Included in her handmade offerings at the store are painted rocks, an emergency can bell, popsicle stick people and bookmarks made of uncirculated pennies dated 2025 and packing tape. "I spent $100 on two rolls of pennies, and I only got two bookmarks out of it," she quips.

Sedaris likely won’t be at the store in person, unless someone asks her to come help out. "I would love nothing more than to get behind that counter and offer to gift wrap, because I can't gift wrap," she admits. "I'm awful at it."

"Everyone keeps telling me, 'Amy, you used too much tape,' because I put packing tape over everything," she explains. "I love how shiny it is."

The Strangers with Candy actor has been an avid crafter for quite some time. She published a book in 2010 titled Simple Times: Crafting for Poor People, which features many of the crafts she still makes today. "Those are the crafts I made in Girl Scouts, and those are the crafts I only know how to make," she says.

"I kind of make the same things over and over because I have good ideas for crafting, and if I can rope people into doing it for me, I'm good at the ideas. But the execution, I'm really not that good," continues Amy. "I just love a simple, naive craft. And they look like s---."

In another crafting project, which Sedaris deserves more artistic credit for, she recently redecorated her dollhouse for Christmas with a tree, wreaths, gifts and more. As for her own home, “I have a tree up, but my apartment's a little messy because of the crafting,” she says. “So right now I just have a tree that I can turn on, and that's it. I won't do anything else.”

For those who live in her dollhouse, Sedaris made miniature versions of frozen dinners from Amy’s Kitchen for a commercial promoting her partnership with the brand — a collaboration that feels overdue given their shared namesake. “I guess Amy Schumer and Amy Poehler were busy,” she jokes. “So I'm glad they asked me.”

“It's a good thing to give people for Christmas,” adds Sedaris of the frozen dinners. “Like, straight guys, or they can be gay guys too, but I'm just saying it's a good thing to give somebody single to have in their freezer.”

Sedaris plans to celebrate Christmas at her brother David’s N.Y.C. apartment with friends. Until then, she’s “so glad” to have all her own crafting and holiday shopping done. “Now I can make fun of last minute shoppers,” she says. “I sit back and enjoy it. Even the post office — I know when to go to the post office, but the people that go at the last minute and cause a scene because it's not going to get there on time, I gobble it up.”
