Summer is indoor-kids season, which makes it the ideal time to catch up on your Netflix queue.
The streamer is debuting a slate of new original films in July, including *Enola Holmes 3*, starring Millie Bobby Brown as Sherlock Holmes' (Henry Cavill) intrepid younger sister. In addition to a wealth of Netflix Originals, several recent releases and modern classics are joining the library this month. If you missed *Hamnet*, Chloé Zhao's Oscar-nominated 2025 drama is hitting Netflix this month, along with 1992's epic baseball comedy *A League of Their Own* — a perfect summer movie if there ever was one.
Meanwhile, those looking for something a little meatier to chew on should keep their eyes out for *Tár*, the thrilling 2022 drama starring Cate Blanchett as a renowned conductor on the precipice of a downfall.
Below are 10 movies coming to Netflix this month that you really don't want to miss.

Taylor Swift isn't the only girlie with big wedding plans this month. As Enola prepares to wed Lord Tewkesbury (Louis Partidge) in Malta, she's drawn into her most dangerous case yet, with both events challenging her sense of identity. Millie Bobby Brown is a total charisma machine in the *Enola Holmes* movies, proving she's far more than her most famous role on *Stranger Things*.

Penny Marshall's heartwarming and hilarious classic is the reason why we all know *there's no crying in baseball*. Featuring a stellar ensemble cast anchored by Geena Davis and Lori Petty, *A League of Their Own* is a fictional retelling of the very real story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. In the 1940s, as World War II threatens to shut down Major League Baseball, team owners decide to fund a league for women, recruiting the best ball players across the United States. The result is a rag-tag group of women from different backgrounds coming together to play ball in one of the most enjoyable movies ever made.

Macy stars as a pathetic car salesman whose plan to ransom his own wife with the help of two dirtbag career criminals (Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare) goes dangerously awry. Frances McDormand gives an Oscar-winning performance as Marge Gunderson, the pregnant police officer on the case.

Ben Affleck in 'Gone Girl'.
**Available to stream: **July 1
Based on the bestselling novel by Gillian Flynn, *Gone Girl* ostensibly centers on the disappearance and possible murder of Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike), who goes missing on her fifth wedding anniversary. The prime suspect is her husband Nick, played by Ben Affleck in a performance evocative of Scott Peterson — a handsome, seemingly charming guy with a darkness lurking just beneath the surface. David Fincher's film is a thrilling examination of relationships and the stories we tell ourselves and each other, and how those stories can be manipulated and weaponized.
**Director: **David Fincher
**Cast: **Rosamund Pike, Ben Affleck, Carrie Coon, and Kim Dickens

With *The Odyssey* hitting theaters in July, you might be itching to revisit Christopher Nolan's previous films. *Memento*, the director's second film, stars Guy Pearce as Leonard Shelby, a man who copes with his anterograde amnesia (an inability to make new long-term memories) through a complex system of his own design involving tattoos, photographs, and handwritten notes. In his breakthrough thriller, Nolan constructs a brilliant non-linear narrative that all comes together — and circles back around — in a stunning conclusion.
**Director: **Christopher Nolan
**Cast: **Guy Pearce, Carrie-Anne Moss, Joe Pantoliano, and Stephen Tobolowsky

If you're overdue for a good cry, may we suggest *Hamnet*? Jessie Buckley gives yet another phenomenal performance in a career filled with them in Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao's followup to 2020's *Nomadland*. Based on the novel by Maggie O'Farrell (who also wrote the screenplay), *Hamnet* follows Agnes and William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal), whose rural lives are shattered by tragedy when their young son, the eponymous Hamnet (Jacobi Jupe), dies. While ol' Billy Shakes runs off to London to cope in his own way, writing the play that will become *Hamlet*, Agnes is left to navigate grief with their remaining children.
**Director: **Chloé Zhao
**Cast: **Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, Noah Jupe, Joe Alwyn, and Emily Watson

Riley Keough and Taylour Paige in 'Zola'.
**Available to stream: **July 10
Janicza Bravo's riveting retelling of the Twitter thread that captivated the entire internet, *Zola* stars Taylour Paige as the titular protagonist, a Detroit waitress and part-time stripper who gets roped into a scheme by a dubiously charismatic fellow stripper named Stefani (Riley Keough), her endearingly dumb boyfriend (Nicholas Braun), and her mysterious, menacing accomplice (Colman Domingo). Co-written by Bravo and acclaimed playwright Jeremy O. Harris, *Zola* is a hilarious thrill ride that brilliantly adapts and incorporates the infamous Twitter thread on which it's based.
**Director: **Janicza Bravo
**Cast: **Taylour Paige, Riley Keough, Colman Domingo, and Nicholas Braun

Chandler Levack is one to watch. After making her feature debut with *I Like Movies* (2022), the emerging Canadian filmmaker released two new films this year: the Netflix original *Roommates*, a throwback teen comedy starring Sadie Sandler and Chloe East; and *Mile End Kicks*, which is joining the former on the platform this month. Barbie Ferreira stars in the keenly-observed comedy as Grace, a young music journalist who moves to Montreal to be closer to the indie scene while writing a book on Alanis Morissette.
In classic late-coming-of-age fashion, Grace indulges her worst instincts, falls in love with the wrong guy (who's in a *band*, no less), and threatens to undermine her own aspirations. If you love *Reality Bites* (1994) or Lena Dunham's *Girls*, then *Mile End Kicks* is your jam.
**Director: **Chandler Levack
**Cast: **Barbie Ferreira, Devon Bostick, Stanley Simons, Juliette Gariépy, and Jay Baruchel

Get ready for the upcoming release of *The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping* by revisiting the *entire* series when it hits Netflix this month. That's right, we're talking *The Hunger Games*, *Catching Fire*, *Mockingjay* Parts 1 and 2, and *The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes*. Jennifer Lawrence made good on her early-career Oscar nom for *Winter's Bone* (2010) when she took on the role of dystopian heroine Katniss Everdeen in the blockbuster franchise based on the YA novels by Suzanne Collins.
Like most dystopian spectacles, the *Hunger Games* movies feel increasingly relevant and occasionally prescient. The initial run arguably peaks with *Catching Fire* and *Mockingjay – Part 1*, while the Rachel Zegler-led *Songbirds and Snakes* is a surprisingly effective prequel that reminds you how satisfying these movies can be.
**Director: **Gary Ross, Francis Lawrence
**Cast: **Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, and Donald Sutherland

Cate Blanchett in 'Tár'.
**Available to stream: **July 27
Lydia Tár definitely has to be in the top five Cate Blanchett performances. You might assume that a movie set in the world of classical music, of all things, wouldn't be particularly thrilling for those unfamiliar with the great composers, but *Tár* is just as riveting a psycho-thriller as the aforementioned *Gone Girl*. Blanchett's Lydia is a prickly world-renowned composer and conductor on the verge of recording a pivotal symphony. It's just too bad about the *allegations*. *Tár* is a darkly comedic document of a powerful woman facing consequences for her actions (an irony which is not lost on this film), and somehow only the *third* feature film from director Todd Field after *In the Bedroom* (2001) and *Little Children* (2006).
**Director: **Todd Field
**Cast: **Cate Blanchett, Nina Hoss, Noémie Merlant, and Mark Strong
